Staff and Friends of Woburn May Center “Light It Up Blue”

On April 1^st, the eve of World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), buildings all around the world - including the Empire State Building in New York City, the CN Tower in Toronto, and the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia - were lit with blue lights as part of the “Light It Up Blue” event to spread autism awareness.

When the staff at the May Center School in Woburn, Mass., heard about “Light It Up Blue,” they knew it was the perfect way to participate in WAAD. On April 2^nd, staff members, friends, and family came together as a team to take part in the special day, each donning a blue article of clothing.

“Being part of the movement to light up the world blue for autism awareness was not only a fun way for us to come together as a team working with this special population, it was an easy and meaningful way to involve friends and family,” said Jaimie Hoover, Program Director.

During the event, staff members were honored to share the Puzzle of Autism quilt, made by a parent of one of the children who attends the Woburn school.

The May Center for Child Development in Woburn, Mass., is one of May Institute’s four special education schools for students with autism spectrum disorders and other special needs.
