Splash Pad Opens at May Center School in Randolph, Mass.

At May Institute, our work with children focuses on all areas of skill development, including learning, social, and play. In July, the long-awaited splash pad at the May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Randolph opened! The splash pad will foster those three skills for our 150 students.

The splash pad site mimics a community inclusion opportunity in this safe environment. While playing within the area, our students are learning the problem-solving skills that come along with unexpected situations in a fun and meaningful way. The teachers are excited to use this recreational equipment to combine both exercise and sensory exploration.

Sincere thanks to the May Center School parents, especially George and Ann Verghese, for an inspiring challenge grant and to Sabrina Manno for spearheading the parent appeal! We are grateful to Philanthropy Committee chairman Neal Todrys, who challenged the Board of Trustees to help purchase the frog element of the splash pad, and to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England and the Amelia Peabody Charitable Fund for grant support of this important project.

This splash pad will offer countless opportunities for our children to learn, to exercise, and to play together, and it has quickly proven to be a terrific addition to our campus!
