Fall Festival Celebration in Jacksonville, N.C.

The May Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (previously known as the Southeast Regional Autism Center) in Jacksonville, N.C., hosted a very successful Fall Festival for military families whose children receive autism services from the Center. More than 50 people attended the event at Equine Country USA, a local horse park. Families enjoyed pony and carriage rides, painting pumpkins, an obstacle course, decorating cookies, and practicing new skills, and then shared a wonderful lunch.

Amidst the fun and games, staff from the May Center worked with the children on many of the goals they had practiced during one-on-one sessions—goals such as initiating and reciprocating social interactions, sharing, and waiting. Staff also created a unique teaching opportunity for children who have never participated in trick-or-treating, and the children had a great time practicing. Parents also received helpful safety tips in preparation for trick-or-treating in their communities.

It was a productive, fun-filled day for all!
