Program Coordinator
May Center for Early Intervention
Western Massachusetts

Alison Bartone has been working in the Early Intervention Program since October 2000. She started out as an intern from Springfield College and is
now the Program Coordinator.

Amongst all her fabulous traits, her calmness is so impressive. The world of Early Intervention is never dull. Alison calmly takes it all in and then provides such great suggestions that staff often say to each other, “why didn’t we think of that?”.

Alison shares her calmness with our co-workers when they seek her out for support and feedback. She has developed systems that help our team keep all the paperwork organized, guide us in the Department of Public Health (DPH) system, and keep track of all the required deadlines. Because of this, our Early Intervention program has received many error-free reports from the DPH.

She has been very successful in working with parents who have a developmental disability themselves. Alison’s supportive, nonjudgmental approach provides these individuals with the assistance they need to be the best parents ever! One mom had three children, all of whom qualified for Early Intervention due to a variety of developmental delays. Alison did an amazing job working with the oldest daughter who had a speech delay. She would sit in the corner of the room with mother and daughter and initially just play. Gradually, the girl began to open up and the team discovered that she actually had many words! Alison provided the mom with a variety of activities they could do together to encourage her daughter to verbally express herself. Eventually the mom requested activities to stop the child from talking so much! This example offers a snapshot of the dedication and hard work Alison commits to each family. I truly believe that Alison deserves this Employee Spotlight Award.
